KAR was founded in 1984 by entrepreneurs Richard Kayne and John Anderson—whose legacy includes the UCLA Anderson School of Management—to manage capital through non-traditional investment partnerships. The firm’s traditional investment management business began in 1989 with the addition of Allan Rudnick.
Over time, the firm has grown while remaining grounded in its founding principles: a focus on capital preservation, a commitment to thoughtful, disciplined research, and an emphasis on quality in both business practices and investment strategies.
